Mustique Houses Vol 1

Tuesday, August 14, 2001

The small Caribbean island of Mustique has long been known as a playground of the rich and famous. With its clear blue waters, pristine white beaches and fringing coral reefs, this rugged and beautiful island has attracted celebrities, superstars and royalty to its shores since the 1960s.

Privately owned and administered by the Mustique Company, it encompasses some ninety private homes spread across its 1400 acres. They range from single-storey stone cottages to Palladian mansions and modern-day creations of glass and steel.

Architectural and cultural influences are numerous and diverse, resulting in a unique collection of singular houses. Given the size of the island - a little over two square miles - it is doubtful whether such an eclectic group of properties exists in such a small area anywhere else.

In this book one of the Caribbean's best-known photographers, Mike Toy, takes us on a tour through twenty-three of the island's homes and illustrates why they are amongst the most coveted in the world.
